Estimated daily energy need
—kcal
Basal metabolic rate—
The calories your body burns just to stay alive — breathing, heartbeat, digestion, keeping your organs running — even if you stayed in bed all day and didn't move.
Activity adjustment—
Extra calories burned from moving around — walking, chores, workouts — on top of the basal rate above. The more active you told us you are, the bigger this number.
Goal adjustment—
Calories added or subtracted on top of what keeps your weight steady, sized for slow and sustainable change — not a crash diet or an aggressive surplus.
Calculated with the Mifflin–St Jeor equation and standard activity multipliers. This is a population-level estimate, not a medical measurement — actual needs vary by 10–15%.
Weigh-ins
Your last logged weigh-ins. Day-to-day shifts of half a kilo or more are normal — water, food volume, and timing all move the scale.

Check every value below before saving — this is read straight off the label, and a blurry photo can misread a number. Anything blank wasn't printed on the label; only fill it in if you know it for certain, otherwise it's left out of your nutrient totals rather than guessed at.
Check every value below before saving — this is read straight off the label, and a blurry photo can misread a number. Anything blank wasn't printed on the label; only fill it in if you know it for certain, otherwise it's left out of your nutrient totals rather than guessed at. Supplement labels often print their own "%RDA" column — we never use that figure, since it's usually calculated for a different age group or activity level than you; your real percentage is worked out from the amounts below, against your own targets.
Or describe it — type, speak, or snap a photo
Voice input isn't supported in this browser — type what you ate instead and press "Parse what I ate."
A photo gives a rough guess at what's on the plate and roughly how much — always double-check the description below and the matches before adding, since portion size from a single photo is inherently an estimate, not a measurement.
Check these before adding — matching is best-effort and may miss an item or get a quantity wrong.

Today's classification
—
Real minutes logged—
→ Moderate-equivalent minutes—
Calories burned (activity)—
How is this calculated? ▾
"Moderate-equivalent minutes" is a converted score, not real clock time — a workout that feels twice as hard counts double. Each activity has a published MET value (how many times more energy it burns than sitting still). Using the same convention WHO and CDC use, 1 vigorous minute counts as 2 moderate minutes, and 1 light minute counts as half a moderate minute — so 30 real minutes of something vigorous (like a hard strength session) becomes 60 moderate-equivalent minutes, while 30 real minutes of something light (like gentle stretching) becomes 15. Added up for the day: 0 = Sedentary, 1–29 = Light, 30–59 = Moderate, 60–89 = Active, 90+ = Very Active. This is this app's own daily scoring built on real public-health intensity conventions, not an official medical classification — official guidelines are stated per week, not per day.

Trends & history
How your nutrient gap has moved over time, and which gaps keep showing up.
Testing utility
No history yet? Populate the last 14 days with a realistic sample diet — including a couple of skipped days — so you can see the chart, streaks, and recurring gaps working with real data.
Calorie & activity balance
Both measured the same way each day — how far you ran from target — so a deficit or surplus in eating and a shortfall or excess in activity show up side by side.
Calorie balance compares intake to your profile's calorie target, which already assumes a baseline activity level. Activity balance compares moderate-equivalent activity minutes to the general 30 min/day CDC/WHO guideline, not a personalized target — this combined view is this app's own way of showing both at once, not a medical assessment.

Recurring gaps
Calculated against your current profile targets applied retroactively across the period — not the targets that may have been in effect on each day if your profile changed.
Sample output
This trend summary is rule-based in this prototype. In production, this would send your period-over-period gap history to Claude for a written summary, under the same fact-only, no-diagnosis constraints as the daily insight panel.

Medical report reader
Upload a lab report to see values compared against the reference ranges printed on your own report.
How this works, and what it will never do
This tool reads values that are explicitly present in your report and compares them only to reference ranges printed on that same report — never a general range from elsewhere. It does not diagnose, does not infer conditions you haven't been tested for, and does not recommend treatment. Always review results with your doctor.
Drop a PDF or image of your lab report here, or
PDF, JPG, PNG, or WEBP. Large PDFs are split into smaller pieces automatically — images should stay under about 3MB.

How your markers are trending
What this is, and isn't
These charts plot the numbers already printed on your saved reports, grouped by name. They show direction and position relative to your most recent report's printed range — nothing here judges whether a change is good, bad, or worth worrying about. Reports from different labs can use different reference ranges or test methods, so an apparent change can reflect that rather than a real change in you. Always discuss trends with your doctor.
Save at least one report with readable values to see trends here.
Notes for your dietitian
Suggestions to raise, not instructions to follow
These are talking points, phrased the way a note to your dietitian might read — based on values from your reports that fall outside their printed range and have an established, general connection to diet. This app isn't deciding anything for you, and it doesn't flag every out-of-range value — only the ones with a real dietary angle worth raising, like blood sugar, lipids, or specific nutrients.
Doctor visits
Keep a record of your visits, and store prescriptions, consultation notes, and bills alongside them.
Storage, not interpretation
This app never attempts to read or summarize what's written on a prescription or consultation note — handwriting is hard to read reliably, and medicine names vary too much by brand and region to guess safely. Everything searchable here (doctor, notes, medicines) is typed in by you. Files are kept as your own private, secure record.

Dietitian
Chat with our AI first line to think through your situation and goals, then request a real online or offline consultation with one of Box Full of Beans' panel dietitians whenever you're ready.
What this AI can and can't do
This assistant can help you think through your situation and goals, and it'll point you toward booking when that's the right next step — but it isn't a dietitian, can't diagnose anything, and can't actually book, confirm, or change an appointment itself. Only submitting the form below does that; a real person on our team confirms it with you afterward.
Chat
Say hello, or tell us what's on your mind — this AI can help you think it through.
Request a consultation
Tell us when works, and one of our panel dietitians will confirm it with you directly — this isn't an instant booking.
Your requests
No appointment requests yet.
Connect a wearable
Sync activity data so your Activity Log fills in automatically, on top of anything you log by hand.
Fitbit & Strava
Real OAuth connections — your Fitbit/Strava password is never seen by this app, and your access tokens are stored server-side only, never in your browser.
Other devices
These remaining ones are still simulated locally in this prototype — a live build would authenticate through each brand's own OAuth flow (Google Fit / Health Connect, Garmin Connect, Apple HealthKit via a companion iOS app) the same way Fitbit and Strava now do.
